What does UPF 50+ mean?

This product is UPF 50+ certified.

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. It is an index measuring the ability of a fabric or material to filter out ultraviolet rays. The UPF 50+ index is the highest UV protection certification, according to European standard EN 13758-1. An UV protective garment with UPF 50+ certification blocks over 98% of UV rays, protecting your skin from possible burns and lesions.

By way of comparison, a cotton summer t-shirt often has a protection factor of around UPF 5. This means that 20% of UV rays pass through the fabric, which is a lot for someone who has to stay out of the sun or is exposed to it for long periods of time.

Mon fils de 4 ans et demi a porté ce legging une fois pour une sortie au lac, et il correspond parfaitement à mes attentes. Assez clair de peau, la crème solaire n'était sûrement pas assez efficace pour lui, surtout qu'il adore se baigner. J'aimerais commander le même pour ma fille de 8 ans mais il n'y a pas la taille adéquate, c'est dommage.
