How to apply sun cream properly?
On those days, it's imperative to make suncream part of your daily morning routine if you want to be properly protected against UV rays.
Suncream should be applied around 20 minutes before exposure to UV rays to create the intended protective barrier. It should be applied generously and evenly to clean, dry skin.
Unlike usual cosmetic products, it is advisable to apply a sufficient layer of sunscreen, as the quantity directly affects your protection. Laboratory tests and analyses are based on a standard that stipulates a precise product quantity of 2 mg/cm ² of skin. But in reality, people who apply this dose are quite rare. Generally speaking, the dose applied is around 0.5 mg/cm ². For an adult, the recommended application is 5 ml, or about a teaspoon, for each part of the body not covered by UV protection clothing. This equals a total of 35 ml (about seven teaspoons) for a full-body application.
When spending time outdoors, sun cream should always be applied at least every two hours, regardless of how waterproof or perspiration-resistant the sun cream is. As swimming, sport, perspiration and towel-drying can reduce the effectiveness of the product, it is recommended that you always apply sun cream after these activities.
Although effective when used in the right way, it is difficult to apply a spray sun cream correctly and to achieve enough coverage to ensure optimum protection. For this reason, we do not recommend its use.
Sun cream is not armour. It should be used with anti-UV clothing, ideally UPF 50+ certified, to guarantee maximum protection against UV rays. You can wear an anti-UV T-shirt, preferably long-sleeved, a wetsuit, an anti-UV swimming costume or anti-UV leggings. Don't forget to protect your head, neck and nape with a wide-brimmed anti-UV hat 👒 and to wear category 2 or 3 sunglasses.
